THIRD BASEMENT FIRE

By Treasurer Clay Myers
April 14, 2013

Gamber & Community Fire Co. and neighboring units were again alerted for a house fire at approximately 9:35 on Sunday morning, April 14, 2013. The fire was located on Doe Drive in Finksburg. This is the third basement fire to strike the same neighborhood, Deer Park Estates, since February.

Firefighters in the Medic Unit and Engine arrived shortly afterwards and reported fire showing from a basement window in the front of the house with smoke from all sides of the single family dwelling. A rapid intervention dispatch was alerted for a working fire in the residence and a tanker task force was requested. This brought additional apparatus and personnel.

Chief 13 Charlie Green assumed command. The fire was knocked down shortly and declared under control after that. The additional fire and tanker units were placed in service shortly afterwards. Units on the scene worked for some time checking for hot spots and removing smoke and overhauling. A water supply source was set up at Rt. 32 and Deer Park Rd. at the United Methodist Church's underground water tanks.

The homeowner was able to escape the fire with her four dogs without injury. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the family and BGE was called to disconnect the power.

Gamber was assisted by Reese, Westminster, Sykesville, and Reisterstown. Reese Fire Co. filled in at Gamber.

The fire is under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. There was no determination of the cause or the amount of loss.
