| Members of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. canvassed the Deer Park Estates neighborhood in Finksburg on Sunday, April 21 and again on Thursday, April 25.
In the wake of three house fires since February, officers of the fire company decided to do a "Smoke Detector Walk" in the community that is located off of Deer Park Rd. None of the three houses had working smoke detectors.
During the Sunday morning walk, members approached 39 homes, entered 22 with permission, inspected current smoke detectors and alarms, and installed 29 new alarms. Six of those were provided by the homeowners and the rest were provided free-of-charge by the fire company.
On Thursday evening, 42 homes were approached. Fire company members entered 29 homes and installed 21 smoke alarms. Of those, one was provided by the homeowner.
The fire prevention detail was coordinated by Gamber Assistant Chief Shawn Chenoweth and Fire Prevention Chairperson Bridget Weishaar. Bridget is also Chairman of the CCVESA Public Education Committee.
