By Treasurer Clay Myers
June 27, 2014

We are pleased to announce that Rebecca Reed of Finksburg, Maryland has been named the winner of the 2014 Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund Award. The scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Brothers family and the Gamber & Community Fire Company.

This year's application process saw many very strong applicants and the selection committee had a challenging time deciding on the winner.

As part of the scholarship requirements, the winner will be required to complete 40 hours of community service each year, and must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA in college. They also must reside in Gamber & Community Fire Co.'s first due district.

Rebecca will be a freshman at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA, starting in the Fall of 2014. She graduated from Westminster High School in June 2014 with a 4.3468 weighted GPA.

Rebecca has volunteered at Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue, Piney Run Day Camp, Vacation Bible School, and Girl Scouts of America. She has also assisted with horseback riding lessons at Brave Venture Farm and with the Best Buddies Club. She completed an internship at the Animal Medical Hospital in Glenwood, Howard County during her last semester in high school. She also works part-time as a farm hand at Brave Venture Farm.

Rebecca plans to further her education in the field of veterinary science. She is the daughter of Cynthia Reed of Finksburg and Scott Reed of Sykesville. She is the oldest of four children.

We congratulate Rebecca as this year's winner for her excellent application and we wish her well in her studies at Delaware Valley.
