Oscar Brothers Scholarships

Members of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. and the Oscar Brothers Family are pleased to announce that Sydney White and Wyatt Cox, both of Westminster, Maryland, have been named the winners of the 2019 Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund Award.

The scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Brothers family and the Gamber & Community Fire Company and it awards generous funds for tuition to both students for four years. An additional bonus is awarded for each semester when academic honors are earned. This is the twelfth year of the scholarship program that is funded by the Brothers Family and managed by the fire company.

As part of the scholarship requirements, the winner is required to complete 40 hours of community service each year and must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA in college. The student must reside in Gamber & Community Fire Co.'s first due district.

Sydney graduated from Westminster High School in June and will be attending Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA. She is the daughter of Pamela and Charles White of Westminster.

Wyatt also graduated from Westminster High School in June and will be attending Salisbury University in Maryland. He is the son of Tiffany and David Cox of Westminster.

Gamber & Community Fire Co. Scholarships

The fire company is also announcing the award of two additional scholarships this year. These awards are given to either members of the fire company or family members and are funded directly by the fire company.

The winners this year are Makenzie Leppert and Gailynn Petry both of Westminster. Students eligible for this scholarship must be planning on enrolling in a college or university and taking courses in emergency management, emergency medicine, fire protection, health care, or a related field.

Makenzie is the daughter of Jennifer and Todd Leppert and the granddaughter of Michele and Denis Leppert. Her father and grandfather are both members of the fire company. She will be attending Stevenson University in September majoring in nursing.

Gailynn is a member of the fire company and is currently enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician curriculum at Carroll Community College in conjunction with the University of Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI) in Westminster. She is the daughter of Kimberly and Tom Petry of Westminster.
