An early evening barn and storage shed fire sent fire apparatus from Carroll and Baltimore County to Louisville Road between Bollinger Mill and Deer Park Road.
Units from Gamber & Community Fire Co. were alerted for a barn fire at 7:15 pm on Wednesday, February 17. Firefighters from Gamber, who were already at the station for a training class, responded quickly with the tanker, engines, and ambulance. Reese, Sykesville, Reisterstown, Franklin Station 56, and Arcadia were also alerted on the call.
Gamber members arrived and found two barns fully involved with fire. A long, fairly steep driveway led to the fire and the first engine could only get part way to the scene due to snow and ice. Firefighters had to drag hose the rest of the way up the hill to the barns.
One barn was approximately 27' x 30' and the second was 27' x 26' with two stories. Equipment, power tools, hand tools, a tractor, two motorcycles, a 28' boat and trailer, and other items were destroyed along with a wood shop.
Units had the fire out by 9:30 pm and returned to service after rolling up several thousand feet of hose. Water was pumped from the stream on Louisville Rd. and relayed through several engines.
Engine 123 from Sykesville filled in the Gamber station during the incident.
