| On 12/07/11 at 12:09 p.m., Rescue Alarm 9-11 was sounded for a tractor trailer tanker overturned with entrapment in the Royal Farms Store parking lot located at the intersection of Route 140 and Bethel Road in Westminster. Medic 99 arrived on scene minutes later and advised of a large tanker on its side with active diesel spill from the tanker. Rescue Squad 9 arrived and advised no victim entrapment. Chief 9 assumed command and called for another medic unit, two additional engine companies, along with a hazardous materials unit. Engine/Tanker 133 responded with a crew of four to the scene. Upon arrival, 133's crew went to work securing runoff down Bethel Rd, which was heading toward a storm drain. Hazmat crews contained the spill from the 7000+ gallon tanker. Two patients were transported to Shock Trauma Medical Center. E/T133 cleared the scene after approximately two hours. Crews from Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Department, Maryland Department of the Environment, Maryland State Highway Administration, and Haz Mat 30 remained on the scene for additional required clean up. |
