Members of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. canvassed a small portion of the Gamber community on Saturday, August 2. The focus area was Georgia Ave. and Rt. 32 just south of Rt. 91.

In the wake of a house fire on Georgia Ave. earlier in the week, where there were no smoke alarms present, officers of the fire company decided to do a "Smoke Alarm Walk" in this community.

On Saturday members approached 4 houses on Georgia and 4 house on Sykesville Road (Rt. 32.) The house with the fire had enough damage that they were not eligible for a smoke alarm due to the remodel. We actually went into three houses and installed a total of 5 smoke alarms.

The fire company received a $50 donation during our installation.

The smoke alarm canvas was under the direction of Bridget Weishaar, EMS Lt. 13-1 and Fire Prevention Chairperson. Plans are underway to do additional smoke alarm walks.
