Gamber & Community Fire Co. is proud to announce that it has received a grant award in the amount of $3000.00. This 50:50 award is from the Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) program from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and it is for the 2014 grant period.

During the 2014 grant application period 54 applications were received and reviewed from volunteer fire departments in 16 counties in Maryland requesting funding for $265,801 in projects.

The fire company spent just under $6000 for the purchase of 20 new Crew Boss Wildland Jumpsuits. These meet the NFPA 1977 Standard on Protective Clothing and Equipment for Wildland Firefighting. The jumpsuits are lighter than regular turnout gear and they take away from the stress and fatigue that results from wearing heavier structural firefighting gear when fighting a woods or field fire. The suits are lightweight but fully protect against heat, flames, and embers. They were purchased from The Fire Store, a division of the Witmer Public Safety Group.

The grant was prepared and submitted by 2014 Fire Chief Charlie Green.
