Gamber Scholarship Winner Announced

Members of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. are pleased to announce that Anna N. Teitt of Finksburg, Maryland has been named the winner of the 2015 Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund Award. The scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Brothers family and the Gamber & Community Fire Company and it awards a total of $12,500.00 over 4 years. An additional $500.00 is awarded for each semester on the Dean’s List. This is the eighth year of the scholarship program.

As part of the scholarship requirements, the winner is required to complete 40 hours of community service each year and must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA in college. They also must reside in Gamber & Community Fire Co.'s first due district.

Anna graduated from Westminster High School with a 4.08 weighted GPA. She will be a freshman at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in Bloomsburg, PA, starting in the fall of 2015. Her plans include furthering her education in the field of sign language interpretation. The program at Bloomsburg is intended for students seeking to become American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreters for the deaf/hard of hearing. This highly competitive course of study accepts only 25 students per graduating class each year.

Anna has been active in her church, Calvary United Methodist, in Finksburg. She sings in the church choir, is assistant director of the children’s choir, and has worked with vacation bible school since 6th grade. She has been a Camp Hope volunteer and has also been a summer reading volunteer at the Carroll County Public Library since 9th grade. School activities included color guard in 9th and 10th grades, National Honor Society in 11th and 12th grades, and Instrumental Music Booster. She also participated in indoor recreational soccer during the past year. She is the daughter of Sarah and Karl Teitt of Finksburg.

The fire company congratulates Anna as this year's scholarship winner for her excellent application and we wish her well in her studies at Bloomsburg.
