| At 3:55 pm on Friday, December 5, Gamber & Community Fire Co. was alerted to an electrocution injury on Poole Road off of Route 32 in Gamber. Units arrived on scene to find an incident involving a fiber optic installation failure which caused the fiber optic cable to make contact with the overhead 500Kv transmission lines. Medic 139 was able to safely remove one patient and transport to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center burn unit in Baltimore. Engine 134 secured the scene until BG&E's specialty units could secure the power as the ground area remained energized. A second electrical explosion occurred which caused additional fires to electrical and phone service poles along Poole Rd. BG&E worked all night on the scene and restored power in the early morning hours. Photos and story contributed by firefighter Mike Reardon. |
