Reports of a barn fire resulted in a long afternoon for Carroll County fire companies. The reported barn fire was located in the 900 block of Ridge Road in Reese and Community Volunteer Fire Co.'s first due area. The initial call was received at approximately 12:15 pm on Saturday, April 18.

Gamber and Community Fire Co. along with many neighboring fire departments including Baltimore County and Howard County were also alerted.

Responding units reported a large column of black smoke several miles before arrival indicating a working fire. Initial officers on the call requested a tanker task force.

Fire crews on the scene initiated an exterior attack due to the full involvement of fire in the structure. A travel trailer was also involved and several houses were close to the fire building. Small brush fires and a tree fire also resulted from flying embers. Once the fire was controlled and knocked down, firefighters entered the building to conduct overhaul. Units gradually returned to service starting around 2:45 pm.

Deputy Fire Marshals from the Office of the State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
