| A basement dryer fire challenged area firefighters on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The call was dispatched at 2:06 pm and described as a house fire. Gamber & Community Fire Co. units as well as firefighters from neighboring companies responded to the 100 block of Roosevelt Road just off of Klees Mill Road in Sykesville, Box 13-14. Command requested a RID assignment which brought additional apparatus. Several tankers also responded since the neighborhood is a non-hydrant area. Firefighters entered the basement from the rear and the first floor from the front and knocked down the fire quickly. Checking for extension and smoke removal took place shortly after. Residents evacuated without injury. There were no other injuries reported. The on-duty State Fire Marshal responded to conduct an investigation. Units cleared the scene by 3:00 pm. “Are you interested in learning more about our volunteer mission to serve the community and becoming a member?
