The Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department was heavily damaged in a fire following the collapse of the roof of the social hall, Thursday morning, February 11. Units from Gamber assisted on the call.
Engine 134 responded on the initial call for a roof collapse and gas leak. The engine responded and arrived at Freedom Ave. across from the fire station to establish a connection at the nearest fire hydrant. After much digging through deep piled snow, the hydrant was found and connected.
Once the fire was discovered in the rear of the building, Engine 131 responded and its crew assisted throughout the day.
A standby tanker crew remained at Gamber for E/T 133, and later in the incident, a task force was assigned to the Gamber station. Ladder 5 from Taneytown Vol. Fire Co. (Carroll County), Engine/Tanker 431 from Arcadia Vol. Fire Co. (Baltimore County), Engine 424 and Brush 428 from Boring Vol. Fire Co. (Baltimore County) and Ambulance 465 from Liberty Road Vol. Fire Co. (Baltimore County) filled in. During the fire, Gamber's Utility 13 assisted Sykesville's ambulance on a medical call.
