Scholarship Winners Announced

Members of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. are pleased to announce six scholarship winners for the 2020-21 academic year. Scott Arrington, Samuel Boggs, and Kristina Kemp have been named the winners of the 2020 Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund Award.

This scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Oscar Brothers family and the Gamber & Community Fire Company and it awards a combined total to each student of $16,500.00 over four years. This is the thirteenth year of the scholarship program that is funded by the Brothers Family and managed by the fire company.

As part of the scholarship requirements, each winner is required to complete 40 hours of community service each year and must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA in college. The student must reside in Gamber & Community Fire Co.'s first due district.

Scott Arrington graduated from Liberty High School in Eldersburg in June and will be attending Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. He will be majoring in entertainment and event management. He is the son of Suzette Arrington of Eldersburg.

Samuel Boggs graduated from Westminster High School in June and will be attending Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He will be majoring in theater with an acting concentration. He is the son of Carolyn and James Boggs of Finksburg.

Kristina Kemp also graduated from Westminster High School in June and will be attending Kent State University in Ohio. She is the daughter of Charlotte and David Kemp of Westminster.

All three students had outstanding academic achievement at their respective schools, excellent test scores, extra-curricular activities, community service, and they all contributed well-written essays.

The fire company congratulates Scott, Samuel, and Kristina as this year's Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship winners for their excellent applications and the membership wishes them well in their upcoming years in college.

The fire company is also pleased to announce three additional scholarship awards. These scholarships are funded directly by the fire company and are intended for members of the department or relatives of members.

Patrick Almony, Jack Bez, and Todd Tracey were each awarded scholarships in the amount of $1500.00 each.

Patrick graduated from Westminster High School in June and will be attending Bridgewater College in Virginia. He is the son of Donna Almony of Westminster, and the grandson of Gamber Life-Active Member and past chief and past president, Bob Klinefelter.

Jack is currently an active member of the fire company, an EMT, and an Eagle Scout. He is attending UMBC in Catonsville. He is the son of Shawnna and David Bez of Westminster.

Todd is currently an active member of the fire company, a firefighter and EMT, and employed be the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). He completed his AA degree at Frederick Community College in emergency management and is continuing his education at Towson University. He is a Finksburg resident.

The fire company congratulates Patrick, Jack, and Todd as this year's Gamber & Community Fire Co. Scholarship winners.

Chrissy Green and Cliff Yeager served on this year's scholarship committee.
