Active Charter Member Kenny Linton Passes

Kenneth Walter Linton, 92, of Sykesville, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at home. Born July 19, 1931 in Maryland, he was the son of the late Alfred Edward Linton and Elizabeth Walther Linton. He was the loving husband of 68 years to Bernice Vaughn Linton.

Kenneth Linton was a veteran of the United States Army, and he served in the Korean War in the early 1950’s. Before retiring, he was a lineman for Arrington, Ivy H. Smith, and C.W. Wright utility companies. Then, after retirement, he worked for Haight Funeral Home and Chapel and Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services as a funeral assistant. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with family and friends.

Kenny was the last surviving Active Charter Member of the Gamber & Community Fire Company. He served on many committees including Bingo, Country Dances, the 400 Club, and the annual carnival. He was also President of the fire company in 1977. Most recently, Kenny was chairman of the Memorial Committee which oversees the memorial located beside the fire station.

Kenny Linton was honored in 1992-93 with induction into the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association Hall of Fame.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Debbie Weishaar (Brian), Douglas Linton and Cheryl Hill; sister Evelyn Burns; grandchildren Bridget Weishaar, Melissa Strine, Jennifer Hiscock, and Brittany Rutledge; great-grandchildren Destiny and Courtney. He was predeceased by his siblings Vernon, Dora Aldridge, Sherman, Harold, Donald, Charlotte Godwin, Eugene, Florene Travers, Lois Zepp, Alfred, Jr., Amythest (Betty) Sharp, Irene Dell, James, and Franklin.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 245 E. Main St., Westminster, MD 21157. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gamber & Community Fire Company, 3838 Niner Road, Finksburg, MD 21048.
