January 10, 2009

Crews from Gamber & Community Fire Co. and Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Co. were alerted for an early morning vehicle collision with rescue at approximately 5:20 am on January 10, 2009. The crash was located on Sykesville Road (Rt.32) south of Bird View Road in the 3200 block. A small car and a pickup truck had collided head on. The pickup truck came to rest on top of the guardrail and the car was in the middle of the road.

Chief 13 arrived on the scene and established command and reported that two victims were trapped, one in each vehicle. Paramedic 139's and Engine 131's crews worked to extricate the driver of the pickup truck who was seriously injured but talking to rescuers. He was removed from the vehicle and transported by State Police Medevac helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. The driver of the auto was determined to be deceased in the vehicle.

Reese's Rescue 9 and Medic 99 assisted on the scene. Squad 12 from Sykesville was requested but canceled before it responded. Units cleared just after 9:00 am and returned to their stations.
