| On Saturday, October 6, members from Gamber, Sykesville, Reese and Arcadia came together for a live fire training burn. From time to time contractors have houses they are going to demolish and contact the nearby fire house to give them a chance to train inside first. This accomplishes two things. First firefighters get a real life structure to train in and second it reduces the amount of waste taken to a landfill.
Firefighters were put into groups and would take turns searching, fire attack, and the backup/ rapid intervention team (RIT.) A team of safety officers and instructors monitored the structure and firefighters as they moved through the 22 evolutions. At the end of the day the structure was left to burn into the foundation.
A big thanks to the Gamber Auxiliary for breakfast and lunch and to Pleasant Valley Fire Company for filling in our station while we trained. |
