June 6, 2013

We are pleased to announce that Sean Baldwin of Finksburg, Maryland has been named the winner of the 2013 Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund Award. The scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Brothers family and the Gamber & Community Fire Company.

This year's application process saw many very strong applicants and the selection committee had a challenging time deciding on the winner.

As part of the scholarship requirements, the winner will be required to complete 40 hours of community service each year, and must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA in college. They also must reside in Gamber & Community Fire Co.'s first due district.

Sean will be a freshman at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, starting in the Fall of 2013. He will have graduated from Westminster High School with a 4.3 weighted GPA.

Sean has been active in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He has held numerous leadership positions in the scouts and his Eagle project involved placing navigational signs around the Liberty Reservoir in partnership with the Gamber & Community Fire Co. Water Rescue Team.

Additionally, Sean was involved with the Venturing Crew 202 and in team competitions called Envirothon for three years at the state level. He was also an intern at the Carroll County Outdoor School at the Hashawha Environmental Center in Westminster.

Additional school activities included Westminster High School marching band, Tri-M music honor society, Fine Feathered Friends 4-H Club, investment club, and 2 years in the National Honor Society. He played recreational soccer for 8 years and he also participated in natural resources careers camp.

Sean plans to further his education in the environmental management field at WVU. He is the son of Jenny and Randy Baldwin of Finksburg. He has an older brother and sister.

We congratulate Sean as this year's winner for his excellent application and we wish him well in his studies at West Virginia.
