September 20, 2021

On Wednesday, December 7, 2011, the old Engine 134, a 1999 Pierce Saber, left Gamber for its new home in Cazenovia, Wisconsin. The apparatus was sold to make room for the new engine that was expected to arrive early in 2012.

In addition to being a front-line apparatus at Gamber & Community Fire Co., the engine also has some special historical significance. It went to New York City after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Members from Gamber and Community Fire Co. along with the late Dr. Dean Griffin from Westminster, responded on 9/11/2001 to the World Trade Center in New York City in response to the terrorist attack. Members assisted in treating injured firefighters and a police officer, transporting firefighters to and from the site and hand digging on the pile for victims.

Members who responded to New York City included Alan Barnes, Kevin Barnes, Bill Bollinger, Dale Bollinger, Pat Bonsall, Bruce Bouch, Joey Carter, Melissa Duncan, Charlie Green, Deanne Green, Mike Green, Richard Green, Sr., Richard Green Jr., Dr. Dean Griffin, Heather Helm, Ronnie Miller, Ian Runkles, and Nick Thompson. These Gamber members and Dr. Griffin were honored with a Meritorious Conduct Award by the fire company.

Now serving a small, rural fire department in Cazenovia, Wisconsin, the engine is still providing emergency service at the age of 22.
