Gamber & Community Fire Co. was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on Wednesday, November 23 at approximately 2:39 pm. The initial call was dispatched as a vehicle collision in the 1700 block of Deer Park Rd. in Finksburg.

Chief 13-2, Chad Hastings, arrived on the scene first and upgraded the incident to a working rescue with one person trapped in an SUV. He also requested a rescue assignment. The SUV and a commercial box truck had collided.

Engine 134 and Medic 139 from Gamber responded on the initial call. Additionally, Duty 3 from Westminster responded along with Reese Medic 98. Baltimore County’s Rescue Squad 414 and Sykesville’s Rescue Squad 12 were also alerted. Squad 12 responded and assisted with the rescue as did Baltimore County Special Unit 418 (Reisterstown) which assisted with its rescue tool. The roof and doors of the SUV were removed during the incident.

After an extended time, the driver of the SUV was extricated and transported by ambulance to the Gamber station's carnival grounds where the Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 3 (Frederick) was waiting. The patient was transferred to the helicopter and transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Engine 131 from Gamber handled the landing site on the carnival grounds.

As Engine 134 was returning from the rescue call it was alerted at 3:46 pm to assist with a subject injured from a long fall on Avis Court in Westminster. Medic 98 from Reese and Ambulance 38 from Westminster also responded along with Duty 13. The call was initially dispatched as a basic life support injured subject but was upgraded to an advanced life support call and a helicopter was requested.

The injured patient was transported by ambulance from Avis Court to the Gamber station. Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 1 from Martin Airport in Middle River responded to this call and eventually transported the patient to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Engine 131 from Gamber again handled the landing site on the carnival grounds.

All units cleared both calls and returned to their stations after a very busy afternoon.
