Gamber & Community Fire Co. was alerted for a house fire in the 300 block of Klees Mill Road in Westminster at approximately 10:36 am. This was in Gamber's Box Area 13-14. Units from Gamber, Winfield, Sykesville, Westminster, and Reese were alerted and responded to a reported house fire.

The incident turned out to be a kitchen fire where an air fryer ignited on a stove-top and extended a bit to kitchen cabinets. Gamber’s ambulance crew extinguished the fire with a dry chemical fire extinguisher since they arrived first on the scene. Most units were returned to service while Gamber Engine 134 ventilated smoke from the house.

Later that evening, at approximately 8:20 pm, Gamber was alerted to assist with a house fire in Eldersburg in the 6100 block of Frontier Road located near Red River and Stillwater Roads. This call was in Sykesville's Box Area 12-18.

This turned out to be a working fire with people trapped. Gamber responded with Engines 131 and 134 and Medic 139 to assist Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department and other local fire companies. All residents were safely evacuated.

The fire was contained to the attached garage and attic and spread to several vehicles and a boat on a trailer. Fire crews managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the remainder of the house. One resident was transported to the hospital and two others declined medical treatment. Injuries were not determined to be life-threatening.

Gamber’s Engine 131 crew was assigned to the second story and worked on pulling ceiling drywall. Engine 134’s crew, originally alerted as part of the rapid intervention dispatch, eventually assisted with the garage overhaul. Medic 139 staged at the fire scene and assisted with firefighter rehab and monitoring.

In addition to Sykesville and Gamber, crews from Winfield, Baltimore County and Howard County also responded. The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

All units cleared both calls and returned to their stations after a very busy second day of the new year.
