Gamber Firefighter Honored by Chamber of Commerce

By Public Information Officer Clay Myers
May 14, 2024

Michael Green, a 24-year member of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. was recently recognized as the Volunteer Fire and EMS Provider of the Year by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented at the Chamber’s annual Public Safety Awards ceremony and breakfast banquet held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Pleasant Valley Fire Hall.

Michael was initially nominated for recognition by the fire company’s Board of Directors in a letter to Michael Robinson, Director of Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS. At the time, Michael was a Sergeant in Gamber’s fire officers chain of command.

He has since been promoted to fire Lieutenant by Fire Chief Chad Hastings. Additionally, Mike was awarded the 2023 Gerald L. Lindsay Memorial Firefighter of the Year Award at Gamber’s March 2024 company meeting.

In addition to Monday’s recognition by the Chamber, Micheal was honored with certificates from the Maryland General Assembly and the United States Senate.

In his nomination letter, it was highlighted that Lieutenant Green responded to 122 calls in 2023. This could be driving the engine to a call, being the officer on the crew, or simply being the senior firefighter in the back of the engine. If Gamber is alerted for a fire call, it is likely he will be there. Michael helps ensure our apparatus is response ready. It could be making repairs or maintaining small hand tools, fixing a mechanical issue with an engine, or simply ensuring the apparatus gets cleaned after a response. He also assists with on-the-spot training for members in the station. Lt. Green works with our operational leadership to get the small things handled when they come up.

The Board of Directors noted that Michael has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, tireless work ethic, and a profound sense of compassion towards those in need. He continues to offer his time and commitment to the fire company even with his commitments at home to his two children and his full-time employment.

The Board of Directors, officers, and members of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. are extremely proud to recognize Michael for this significant recognition and honor.
