November 1, 2025

Gamber volunteers and career employees have had a busy several weeks at the fire station and in the community.

Fire prevention activities at Mechanicsville Elementary School took place on Monday, October 20. Every student in the school participated at assigned times throughout the day. Pre K through 5th grades visited the fire engine in the front driveway and had the opportunity to try on firefighter’s turn-out gear. The Fire Prevention Committee chaired by Jeremy Sherfey and Anne Reardon coordinated the day’s activities.

Crews from Gamber also visited Kingdom Kids Christian Childcare Center at the Deer Park Bible Church on October 22. They conducted lessons on fire prevention for the young children and provided opportunities to see turnout gear, equipment, and the fire engine.

“Trunk or Treat” activities at Mechanicsville Elementary were next on the schedule. This took place on Saturday, October 25 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A crew from Gamber passed out treats while kids had the opportunity to see a fire engine and utility vehicle up close.

Another “Trunk or Treat” took place at the Gamber station in the rear parking lot on Sunday, October 26. This was sponsored by the fire company’s Community Events Committee, chaired by Sue Sullivan.

Additionally, a community CPR/AED class was held on Sunday, October 19 at the station. Eighteen members of the public participated and became certified.

An evening “Stop the Bleed” class was held on October 22. Twenty-Six members of the public participated.

A free “Shredding Event” was held on Saturday, November 1 starting at 10:00 am. Residents had important documents shredded for free, but donations were accepted. This event was also coordinated by Sue Sullivan.
