| Sykesville Freedom District Fire Co. and neighboring fire departments were alerted for an apartment fire on Friday, November 28 at 1:07 pm. The incident was located in the 6000 block of Georgetown Blvd. at the Spencer Village garden style apartments. This is a senior community for residents over the age of 62.
Units from Gamber responded to assist on the fire box that was alerted as a high-life hazardous residence. Engine 131 responded first followed by Engine 134.
Both units arrived to assist Sykesville. Engine 131 connected to a hydrant in the parking lot. The crew then conducted a primary search and pulled some damaged ceiling sections. The fire was controlled very quickly and units were returned to service within the hour. One person was transported to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. There were no firefighter injuries.
Deputies from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were called to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. |
