| The Fire Prevention Committee of the Gamber & Community Fire Co. hosted Home School students and their families from the surrounding neighborhoods on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Approximately 49 students who participated in the morning were elementary school age. Along with their parents and family members, there were 70 participants.
The afternoon session hosted middle and high school ages. Eleven students and seven parents participated in the afternoon session. In addition to the fire prevention topics and activities, afternoon participants heard from several people about their careers in emergency services.
Many activities were offered in both sessions including fire prevention, trying on fire gear, fire extinguishers, challenge activities, games, and other activities. A maze was set up in the classroom and children had to crawl through and find their way to “safety.” Participants also toured the fire station, fire apparatus, dive unit and boats, as well as the medic unit.
Speakers in the afternoon session included two police officers, a Maryland State Police aviation paramedic, a firefighter who is both a career and a volunteer member, and a 911 dispatcher/operator.
Gamber members Jeremy Sherfey (Chairman) and Anne Reardon (Co-Chairman) coordinated the days activities and were supported by many members of the fire company. Additionally, fire prevention committee members Brendan Gable and Bridget Weishaar assisted. |
