Klees Mill Road Rescue During Snow Storm

By Public Information Officer Clay Myers
February 24, 2026

An early morning rescue challenged local firefighters, EMS providers, and sheriffs deputies on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 6:48 am. Snow was still falling from the overnight storm that totaled about 2-3 inches.

Units from Gamber, Winfield, and Sykesville along with DFEMS staff were alerted for a person trapped under a fallen tree in the 600 block of Klees Mill Road. The individual was working on a tractor when a tree fell across the lane and trapped him.

Gamber was alerted as the primary department. Winfield's Medic 149 also was alerted since Gamber's ambulance was already responding on an earlier medical call. Sykesville's Rescue Squad 12 was included on the initial dispatch. Since the incident was discovered on a long, narrow, snow-covered lane off of Klees Mill Road, responders had to walk back to the scene with their equipment. A small bridge across a stream also limited access to the location by anything heavier than a car or SUV.

Firefighters working with chain saws were able to extricate the individual after an extended period of time. The victim was carried out of the scene by stokes basket to the waiting ambulance. Transport to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center was made by Winfield's ambulance since helicopters were grounded.

Units: Engine 134, Duty 13, Utility 13-1

Mutual Aid: Carroll County DFEMS staff, Winfield, Sykesville, Carroll County Sheriffs
