| An early morning lightning strike caused a house fire on Saturday morning at 5:30 am. The incident occurred on Jefferson Avenue in Sykesville.
Gamber & Community Fire Co. units were alerted for the fire along with neighboring companies, career staff from CCDFEMS, and the State Fire Marshal's office.
Lightning struck a tree on the property. The powerful electrical charge traveled underground from the tree then under pavers beside the pool. It then blew apart an electrical outlet by the pool and went into the house and into the basement. One room in the basement was involved with some extension into the first floor. A Verizon box on the opposite side of the house was also blown apart.
Engine 134 from Gamber and Tower 12 from Sykesville sent crews into the basement to fight the original fire. Fire crews were on the scene past 7:00 am. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
